Is the DeX station needed or is the DeX cable will be enough to use on my Galaxy S8?

I would like to know if for the Galaxy S8 the DeX Station is needed or with the DeX cable it would be enough

I just confirmed that my wife's S8 works in DeX mode on my DeX cable. I believe this only works after the Pie upgrade.

Thanks, if I was researching on the Samsung page and when updating the S8 and S9 to android foot you can use DeX with only the cable
