The microphone button has a loud beep when touched. It is annoying because there is no setting to lower it or mute. The work around is to turn on the "Do Not Disturb" setting in the pulldown settings. This mutes the sound. You just have to remember to turn it back off later.

You can just lower the volume on the system sound slider in the volume panel. This will lower/mute all system sounds, but not notifications or ring tones. The beep is there so you would know whether you accidentally tuned on the mic.

Tis true, tis true. However, the microphone button sound on the virtual keyboard is not included in system sound settings or notification and ring tone settings. Therefore, requiring a workaround. Most annoying to have a button sound that can not be modified except by an overall "mute" setting. It should have its own setting or be included with other sound settings. As a user mentioned, they think they have lowered all the sounds, yet the microphone button will wake the neighbors. In addition, I think the thousands of issues and or oversights should have been discovered and corrected on any computer operating system in 2024. Why hasn't the entire program been examined by an LLM to address these issues? It seems like this large company (Google) should be more advanced by now. Especially, since we're talking about the system running the majority of mobile devices.

Ii don't know, if I turn off the system sound, my mic is silent. Of course, I am using the Google keyboard. I don't see any reason it wouldn't be the same for the Samsung mic, even if they did change the location. You don't have to actually mute the system sounds, if you want to hear them, you can just make them very low.  Frankly all system sounds are annoying. It's a bit dramatic to say the microphone sound is so loud it will wake the neighbors, unless you live in a tent or paper house. It just sounds loud because it is an obnoxious sound and in a quiet environment probably seems louder.

Weird right? I tested turning down/off the system sound to no effect. I am using the Gboard as well. The user indicated he had paper thin walls in his apartment and the neighbor can hear every time he hits that button. I'm just disappointed the technology has not been pushed to excellence. I was a draftsman for 35 years and even now I feel the technology of CAD (computer aided design) is lacking. I started using computers for technical drawing in the mid '80s. I guess I want everything to be like Star Trek!

Are you sure you turned off the slider for the system sound?  It's the one with the "wrench" at the bottom.

If the OP, who seems to have deleted the original post, has neighbors that can hear the mic beep, what else are they hearing? Compared to human voices, that microphone beep is much lower volume-wise.

I thought that I figured out how to turn it off because I wasn't hearing the sound but then I realized my phone was on vibrate

You are so correct! Tried it with the wrench slider all the way down and presto! No microphone sound! Thank you. Thought I tried that. Too many settings and very clunky software. I remember the days of DOS when I new all the file extensions and where they were! Regards.
