Hello everyone, this post is about smart switch restore from an old LG G3 to a galaxy s7 and from s7 to galaxy s21. All 3 phones were backed up to PC. There is a picture titled '20201211_082625.jpg' which is found on all 3 phone backups. The picture itself is taken with the LG G3 (model LG-D852). After restoring from the LG G3 to a galaxy s7 and subsequently from s7 to s21, are the files restored to the same folders on the destination device as the source device ? What happens to the date modified of folders/files is it also preserved ? Can anyone test this with a small sample of files ? Please see the following screenshots:

@user9yK4SQY1kf The date modified on the folder will be set to the date/time that you do the transfer.

The photos moved by Smart Switch do end up in a new folder but I can't remember the name. They do appear in the Gallery. You can then move the files from the folder up to the proper spot in DCIM but the date/time modified on the file causes sorting issues with some apps, FB is one example.

Because of this, in the last few phone changes, I don't rely on Smart Switch to move photos. We use the OneDrive Gallery sync for photos. So I just make sure that all the photos are synced. When you add your OneDrive account to the new device, you will be able to access all of your photos stored in OneDrive. They appear in the proper sort order. The only small pain is that sometimes, to use a photo in an app, you have to click on a photo and then edit so it will download to your phone. Don't need to really edit it but that causes the download. Then the app accesses the photo as normal.

If you use Smart switch, everything will be the way it was on the old device, except if hardware changes make something incompatible.  Your home screen layout and folders will be the same.  You very much won't have to do anything at all, except make sure everything got restored.  For assurance, you should make a separate backup of just your messages and photos.  Although it should be fine, some people have had issues (whether self-created, or something in the process, is anyone's guess) but, if it's important, there's no such thing as too many backups.

Also, why not just do a direct device to device transfer via Smart switch?
