About two days ago my apps started crashing, with apps like my social media or Google chome opening for half a second and then closing themselves or freezing repeatedly. I followed advice I've seen online and cleared the cache, updated, and even reinstalled some apps but the problems continue. I am also up to date on phone software. While texting this I've received number notifications saying Modes and Routines have stopped working, and I have never used that feature.

  • Yesterday morning my phone wouldn't turn on to the lock screen but I knew it was on because I could hold the power button to see power off options or SOS callings, it just wouldn't respond to screen touches. I eventually learned to hold power and volume buttons down to reset and things were temporarily fine. This afternoon my phone froze in the middle of texting someone and kept flashing an error about One UI Home so I turned it off and upon turning it back on my entire screen was black but I could interact with the edge panel to scroll through quick access apps but clicking them to actually open the app would send me to a black screen. I was able to reset it using the power and volume buttons again since I couldn't interact with the power settings when holding the button down. I am wondering what has gone wrong with my phone that has been perfectly fine for a year of use to cause all these errors at once.

There are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to help resolve this behavior. Like: periodic restarts, maintenance via getting rid of unused apps or files, and turning off unnecessary features.

Another thing that can improve device behavior is to clear your device's cache partition, which you can do with these steps:
• Ensure the device is powered off. If the device is unresponsive/frozen, press and hold the Power button for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles.
• Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Home button.
• While continuing to hold the Home and Volume Up buttons, press and hold the Power button until 'RECOVERY BOOTING' appears in the upper left then release all buttons.
• Select wipe cache partition. Utilize the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
• Select reboot system now. Option is highlighted, utilize the Power button to select.
