Please help... how do I get rid of Google Messages? A pop up came on saying I needed to update my messages and when I did, Google message became the default and my Samsung Messages app is gone! I can't access it automatically & the app & icon disappeared off my phone. I have to go into my phone settings, then apps, then look for the samsung messages. It's listed as my default yet it will not show up on my phone. I un-installed Google Messages but I still can't restore my default Samsung Messages.
It's not a bad idea to get used to using Googles texting app. I too want to use the Samsung text app, however Google messages is more secure with RCS chats and more compatible with Apple messages as well. Samsung is going to stop automatically installing it on new devices going forward.
I think I have Google messaging straight. Not ez but there are threads that will help. I miss not being able to assign specific sounds to specific contacts so I know who is texting me without digging into my pocket for a message that could wait.
Thankfully, I was able to remove Google Messages from my phone and restore my Samsung Messages app. And I know what you mean about the notification sounds... huge help!
