You most likely have your contacts stored in 3 different locations (i.e. Samsung account, Google Contacts, Phone, SIM) and only have one account showing for your contacts list. To show all contacts, you can open the contacts app (not the tab in the dialer), tap the 3 lines on the upper left and tap the window to show all contacts. Or, better yet, go to manage contacts and merge your contacts to one location.
