I love extra dim lowering my cars screen broghtness even more when I'm connected with android auto. In the last little while it stopped working this way, I and my friend have tried on our respective cars but it just doesn't work anymore. Did they add a toggle in a recent update that I can't find or is this functionality, that made driving at night so much easier on my eyes, just gone.

Android Auto is baked into Samsung devices.  It is not unusual for users to assist others with non-Samsung issues if they can, especially if it could be as simple as a settings change. Nor is it forbidden or against community policy to ask non-Samsung related questions. If users choose not to help because it's "not Samsung related", or none of suggested fixes work, the next step would be to contact Google, but there is nothing wrong with contacting Samsung about it either, since it's not a separate app setting as when you install an app, it's part of the Samsung/Android settings, unlike something like Google Messages.

Who appointed you forum monitor anyway?  This is at least the 3rd time you've told people to go elsewhere.

I agree that it is not wrong for Samsung users to assist anyone with anything related to Samsung devices and services here, even tangently related; however, you are mistaken, Android Auto is not baked into the Samsung UI as it is a seperate app from Google, available in the Google Play Store, which can be uninstalled. Baked in Apps, like Samsung Photo, cannot be uninstalled.

I only directed the writer to Google as they are the developers of the Android Auto app and could, therefore, better assist them. But, of course, everyone here is free to comment on the issue and give their input. I was not my intention to negate that fact, but to lead the user to the best source for information regarding the app, to the developers of the app.

The Android Auto that comes with the phone, cannot be uninstalled, only disabled. There is no separate icon for it in the apps, it is part of the Android OS, therefore, Samsung is responsible for the integration and may be contacted for problems with the app.  If one downloaded it from the Play store it can be uninstalled.

I would direct people to the developers if someone is asking about an app not commonly used, or if the fixes offered, if any, did not help.  Or, in the case of calls and messages, direct them to the carrier. There are apps that other people use that they may be able to help with settings or fixes for that do not technically fall under the Samsung umbrella.

I realize that a portion of Android Auto is baked into the Samsung One UI OS, but to use it, it is my understanding, that you have to download the complete app from the Play Store.

Since the writer's complaint was with the apps operation in his vehicle and not their phone, I think that it would be better to refer them to Google and/or their vehicle manufacturer, as the issue seems to be with the app itself and not it's integration or connectivity with their Samsung device.

I posted here first because they are both settings shipped stock with one UI and I just assumed that extra dim was a samsung-added feature. Looking online it seems i switched to Samsung from a pixel around when it was implemented into android, and I know people running Android 12 from other manufacturers and they don't have this option, perhaps it only supports newer hardware as well. Seems to be from stock android though so l will post to android auto help as well then.

I use it frequently, and never had to download the full app from the Play store. When, I bother to plug my phone in to use AA, which I only do if I need to see the map rather than just hear the directions, AA just starts automatically.. but, i believe the OP's post is a settings issue. Sometimes updates change settings.
