I'm about a year and a half in with my S23, the new iPhone type feel of the S24 turned me off from upgrading. I might jump to the S25. How do you guys and gals feel about your S23 situation?

How can you decide on whether you want the new phone when a) it isn't even out yet, b) no one knows what the look and feel will be?  Your S23 will still be supported, so maybe don't be in such a hurry to upgrade, especially if the S24 turned you off.   I don't know how anyone can make a decision to buy any new phone without being able to see, touch and play with it, let alone not knowing what features it's going to have.

Because I'm sure it's going to be something similar to the S24 slightly better chipset and screen that sort of thing. My S23 is starting to show its age.

Show its age?  It's only a year and half old. What have you been doing to it?  Is it supposed to look nice or function?

I can pretty much afford to buy anything I want, but I refuse to spend money upgrading for the sake of upgrading or paying for features I don't need or use. If I have a perfectly functional device that does what I need it to do, and it's still being supported with updates, why would I contribute to the global e-waste problem?

That's a cool outlook to have. I, on the other hand am talking about the design of the phone. Me and my circle are into phones and that sort of thing, I also sell my phone to someone who doesn't mind being a couple of generations behind. I'm not sure how you go about handling e-waste but it's not waste if someone uses it right? I find that people who use that ewaste reasoning as a reason to not upgrade is one of the weaker excuses. Also if e-waste was the reasoning why bring up the fact you can buy anything you want? But I'm glad you found a way to contribute to earth in your own way.

No, definitely not wasteful to pass it along.  I just don't always understand the chase for the next best thing, for the sake of having the next best thing. I bring up the cost of things because there are very many people who cannot afford to chase the newest and bestest, and feel pressured to spend money they don't have for features they don't need just because everyone else has it. I don't feel it's a weak excuse to use e-waste concerns, as not everyone will pass a used device along. I don't trade in, as I usually keep my old device as a backup/spare/internet device if it's still working.

Oh, and I'm also much too lazy to set up a new phone every other year if I don't have to.

I still love my S23 Ultra, and I'm gonna hang on to it for a loooong time. I've had it for 1Ā½ years, and it's still in pristine condition. Never dropped a phone in my life.

Same! I'm gonna keep my S23 Ultra for at least another 2 to 4 years.

Well, I still have the S23 Ultra, and I bought it on February 2023. However, I'll buy the S25 Ultra when Samsung opens the pre-order on January-February 2025

I am thoroughly not impressed with the Victus screen of the S22 and 23. It scratches and cracks too easily. I will wait to see what other improvements the S25 will have before deciding to upgrade. But I do want to upgrade.
