Why can I no longer customize chats in messages?

Just upgraded to the s23 ultra and now I can't customize chats in messages?! What? My s22 was able to do this but not the s23. It makes no sense. And before you tell me to tap the more options and hit the change background or customize buttons, guess what? They don't exist. I have a screen shot of it. It is not there. Fix it samsung, please.

Are you using Samsung Message, or Google? If Samsung Messages is set to default in "Default apps" (in Settings search bar), which version of Samsung Messages are you using? Does reverting to a prior version (June) via APK  do anything to bring back the customize chatroom option? https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/samsung-messages/

My guess is because you are now using Google messages instead of Samsung messages. Samsung changed the default messaging app to Google messages on either the s22 or s23 (can't remember which).

To fix this, switch your default messaging app by going to:

Settings > apps > choose default apps > sms app > set Samsung messages as the default.

Ive tried multiple ways and it keeps kicking me out everytime i press customize chat room and nothing is working to fix it

My Samsung Galaxy S23+ will not allow me to change my default to Samsung text messaging. It will allow allow Google texting to work. If I go into settings and move the default away from Google, when I text it says it won't work unless I change back to Google. Hate the way Google texting is. I would not have bought this phone had o known. Why won't it allow me to move away from Google in default message settings.
