My keyboard "scrolls" thru typing/input. How do I turn thus off??

Is you're using the stock Samsung keyboard, I've had similar issues and have happily switched to GBoard.

I finally found the fix in settings. Its so deeply buried I couldn't tell you where it us ;(

Are you talking about turning Swipe to Type off? You can disable this in the Samsung Keyboard settings.
