How do I give my text messages a different sound from other notification alerts?

Go to sounds and notifications you can change your notification sound there or press and hold messages and go into notifications and change it from there you can download some notifications from an app called Zedge it has wallpapers and ringtones check it out

"Manage Notification Categories for Each App" must be on or you won't be able to do it.

It's off by default.
