Messages in the notification panel

Is there a way to set the messages to disappear once one answers from the notification panel? If I don't go into the message itself, but just pulled down the notification panel to answer a message, technically it's read. If I reply, can it disappear, oppose to it staying there even after I reply? Right now, the only way to get rid of it is to manual click mark as read or swipe it off the notification panel.

Just click the "clear" button at the end if the notification list. You are supposed to clear or swipe away the messages, as some people like to keep them showing as reminders to act. Is it so hard to swipe?

Thank you for your response. I don't think that it is hard to swipe. I'm just used to how it was when you could respond from the panel and it disappeared automatically.

I don't know when that eas. It's always only disappeared if you actually click through to respond to the message through the app (at least I'm moderately sure it does, I don't pay much attention, since I don't obsess over every tap or seipe I have to make) I either respond and dismiss or click through. I'll have to take note of what I do next time I get a text notification.

It stays there if you don't actually click through.  Some notifications are truncated, so you have to click through to read the whole thing, and the notification goes away.  Some are short enough to read the whole message in the notification, thus, messages can be replied to from within the notification, in which case the notification does not go away unless you clear or swipe it. I don't think it's such a hardship to respond and swipe (like adding a period to the end of a sentence). Although, to be honest, I never really paid attention to whether it stays or goes after I respond, as I just automatically swipe or clear after I look at a notification.
