Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

They've intentionally gotten away from the oversaturated look of previous models, which I like. All these people waiting on an update to bring back colors such as red that looks pink maybe waiting a long while

Also for a more comfortable viewing experience and accurate viewing in use, also for a more natural viewing experience too

If you like natural colors that's fine but many of us liked the punchy colors from the previous models. If you lie natural, select natural. But as it stands right now, there is almost no difference between the 2 modes and that's why people think this is a bug

There's no such thing as red looking pink in classic vivid mode. But then things should be optional, especially with well estalbished color modes. They can easily make 5 different dispaly color modes, it's that they removed a mode (and assumed its name with another mode) that is the issue.

Same here. I have the batch number that was listed as having the issue too. šŸ˜¢ šŸ˜

I'm considering returning my S24 Ultra due to the vivid display, seeing it was intentional as reports are saying. I'm not happy with Sammy for doing that and I'm a long time user of samsung

So the title explains it all, shocking I know considering I just made a post saying that the screen wasn't so bad. But after I made that post, I really sat down and thought, for a couple of hours really. The vibrancy of the screen was one of the main reason I chose Samsung over any other brand. I had an S9, then waited a few years to upgrade to the S22U, but this year I can't help but feel, ripped off? Without Samsungs infamous vibrancy this phone is like any other phone, which begs the question. Why pay the premium when phones like one plus 12 exist ? It competes with this phone and is far cheaper. I'm sorry but I have no choice, I've already printed the return label. This phone is going back to senderrrrr!

I completely agree. Samsung needs to receive a massive number of returns in order to wake them up. Eliminating a display mode that was used by 50% of their customers is as if they wanted to eliminate 50% of their revenue. No matter how many people claim everything is normal The truth is we have had the best of both worlds. If you want vivid you can use vivid if you want normal you had normal. Now people are claiming that vivid and normal are the same thing and Samsung claims there's nothing wrong. This is pure neglect on Samsung's part for not putting out a giant official statement from the engineers saying they will re-implement the vivid display mode as soon as possible. The constant speculation and statements from customer service agents and then the new one from Samsung Spain claiming that the display is supposed to look this way was the last straw!!

I am happy to hear your decision, because coming from a s22u myself I am on the fence about returning it and wish I had the balls you do (not your actual balls loll). I don't care about ai etc, I upgraded for battery life and camera, but camera is **bleep** too and I'll deal with battery life on s22u. I will probably return it too
