S24 Display Quality & AOD Missing Options

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

I don't believe the recent Samsung comments on not fixing the display issues on the s24 ultra, none of the setting changes do anything, I can't believe this was on purpose.

Developer options don't even help the slightest. Samsung just fumbled the software on launch, it seems. The S23 wasn't this bad.

Couldn't agree more. S23u looks better aod on s24u horrible i noticed that s23u lasts more on 100%

Right now my S24U is sitting on 35% battery, I unplugged 22hrs ago, with 6.5 hrs of SoT. The battery life is great on this phone. I don't keep AOD on , tap to show, it wakes when I get a notification.
I have adaptive battery on, Performance profile is set to light.
I kinda like the new AOD, way better
Not dim at all!

The new AOD looks good, but I miss my colored notifications. Also, not a fan of the automatic brightness. Battery life is good, but my S23U lasted longer on 100% charge.

How long have you had your phone? It takes like 10-14 days to learn your patterns.
Make sure to turn on performance light. Default is set to standard.

I don't mind the notification Icons, not being the color of app. I want to protect this OLED screen from burn in as much as I can. I can recognize what is what just fine. Maybe down the road, Samsung through Goodlock will bring back some things they took away.
I am extremely happy with this display. It is brighter, NIT WISE, outside in bright sunlight, the anti-reflective panel is game-changing.
I always had my display set to natural.

I have about 5 days with my phone. ill check again my battery settings. the sceen looks different to me but no bad at all just different. Also there is an update coming too

Relax, you should get an update in about 3 weeks to fix Your Issue of Lack of VIVIDNESS
