Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Making this statement will backfire on them as it is an outright lie.  No recent prior Samsung OLED screen has this issue and no iPhone OLED screen has this issue (most made by Samsung).  This is likely an issue with the backplane manufacturing, de-mura process, or the dura process was skipped.

I said yesterday that it can be replaced once in case of diagonal lines in Korea.
However, i checked again, this opportunity was not offered to all users.

This is a post on the Samsung smartphone community in Korea.

(Summary)
He visited two Samsung service centers.
Samsung Service Centers: Your phone cannot be replaced because this phenomenon (diagonal lines) is normal.

i think Samsung seems to have judged display issues are normal.

Mine has the same issue with low brightness. The grain is easily visible. I went to the service center here in India, and they told me it's not an issue and that's how the display is supposed to be. Which is definitely not, lol.

How come this is how it's supposed to be when other manufactures (that use Samsung's panel btw) don't have this issue? Is Samsung cheaping out on their own panel on their own phones?

As a samung fan , I still hate to see samsung selling a phone worth $1300 with grain issues. It's just not acceptable. I see some grain in my device, and it's sucks to have these type of problems coming from such a premium phone. How does this make you look against the competition?

Exactly! If this were a $500 phone I'd shut my mouth, but for a $1300 phone this is just not acceptable, especially considering other phones with Samsung panels don't suffer from this.

Returned two S24U, one with grain, the other with banding visible in all three colors. Really peculiar for Samsung to let through such stuff on a flagship, they are supposed to be THE display people...

I have the jeans pattern that is visible while watching videos even in the middle of the day. Samsung needs to stop gaslighting their customers with "It's a feature, not a bug". We didn't pay $1300 for defects and sub par quality control. If Samsung wants to rush rollouts and cut corners they need to bear the consequences.
