Was the Uncompressed RAW feature been removed?

Can someone clarify why the Samsung S20 series (including S24U) stopped generating uncompressed RAW files sometime in Q1 2023?

In Pro mode, we now have JPEG compression in a DNG container. It is a 12-bit JPEG.

Expert RAW has the same JPEG compression (on 16 bits, probably because of HDR) for S22U and S23U, while on S24U it shows as "Unknown (52546)" compression. According to an article I found on Samsung India, it is said that this is a new JPEG XL compression.

Why not offer the option to get again (as we had before Q1 2023) truly uncompressed mosaiced RAW, which works with the Lightroom Denoise AI algorithm, instead of the current demosaiced compressed Linear RAW, which doesn't.

Also my first dng from the S23U taken in February 2023 does not support it.

The change on S22, S21 and S20 happend after the S23 launch, which may very well have beem shipped with that infamous update.

It seems DNG is ProMode became also completely pointless.

This is the dng with accompanying jpg, highlight set to -100. There is more highlight recovery in the jpg. Can you recreate that? This used to be different.

MotionCam creates the superior raw file (including Adobe noise compatibility) when compared to the stock app (ProMode, on the right).

MotionCam even has enough data for highlight and shadow recovery, Pro Mode does not. Only downside of Motioncam, no 50MP support.

I just tried it. Unfortunately, on S24U, Motioncam has the same problem with the main x1 camera as all other 3rd party apps.

Also, create a ticket with a lot of info about this issue.

You can do that by going into the camera app from there to settings and selecting Contact US.


As for the expert raw app, there is an email on the Galaxy Store when you check the overview of expert raw.
