on a 1440p+ AMOLED x2 expensive screen feels like a waste. 

Why not 5x7 or even 6x7? Nova laucher could that for years.

The round widget corners that cut off content is another sore point.

S25+ is going back to Samsung.

You can go up to 7x7 with Home Up Good Lock module.

Download Goodlock from the Galaxy Store, then the module Home Up, turn it on, turn on the categories you want. Home screen let's you max out at 7x7. I go with 6×7.
I also like to play with the animations.
Try task changer, I use grid view.
