I've also got an old S9 which I use for work. It's still going strong, does everything I need for work and I still get +48 hrs on a charge so If I accidentally drop and break it, I've had it for years, definitely got value for this phone.
So, what I'm trying to find out, can I use the magnetic charger and cable which came with the smart watch to charge either phone overnight (just in case I'm away for a few days and accidentally left the phone charger at home)?

You wouldn't be able to use the magnetic charger, but much like @kimberleigh stated, you can use battery sharing to charge your s9 with your z4 if you want!
