Galaxy WatchI really wish the auto workout function would be taken out, or at least disabled. Now, I do a workout, and it doesn't register the workout. And, in Health, you cannot "Add" a workout. To the developers, please, please, please stop trying to think for the user. We're perfectly capable of starting a workout and stopping one manually. Now, I have to figure out why this watch is no longer detecting auto workouts, and of course, you can't simply START a workout like you could before the last upgrade.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Galaxy WatchYou can select which workouts you want it to auto-detect. You may not have the workout you are doing in the auto detection list. It is also important to note that you have to be active for about 10 minutes before a workout will auto-detect. You can turn off auto-detect if you don't want to use it or find it useless and just start your workout manually. You have to ability to add a workout routine in the health app. You can add an exercise that is not listed, or you can add a routine which includes warmups, rests and cool-downs and add as many different or the same exercises as you want. Go to the exercise tile, tap on "more", tap the + at the top right and select create new routine. Name your routine, add your exercises, then save and select it as one of your favorites.
There would be no reason for Samsung to disable this feature, as it works fine for most people. As I said, it has an off switch. Even if you leave it on, you still have the ability to start a workout manually at any time.

Galaxy WatchI have my exercise activity activated in Auto Detect, and it does not any longer detect this activity.
You say that we still have the ability to manually start a workout. Please reply with a link for those exact instructions. I have looked tirelessly through the setup and 50 other screens and I see nothing on manually starting or stopping a workout.
Thank you.

Galaxy WatchI have had some time to review what had happened in my situation. My "Exercise" tile, after upgrading to the latest Wear OS, was no longer displayed, for no good reason. I eventually got back to where I was by hunting and pecking for quite some time.
I think the proper answer to this question is as follows:
1) go to the Exercise tile, click it and then select your workout.
2) If the Exercise is not visible, EDIT the home screen by hitting the three dot menu on the upper right corner, then hit the plus (+) sign. Add the Exercise tile to your home screen, exit back out, and then select the exercise tile going forward to initiate manually started work outs.

Galaxy WatchSorry, I just assumed everyone who used the workouts added the watch tile. I would have no way of knowing that it disappeared from your watch.

Galaxy WatchOne further note, the Exercise tile has to be re-added to the home page every day. I cannot imagine the logic behind this one.

Galaxy WatchNot on my watch (Watch 7 and Watch 4). I put the tile there, it stays there. I don't know why yours gets removed. Perhaps time for a cache clearing or reset?

Galaxy WatchAlso, if the tile disappears (for whatever reason), you can still start the workout from the watch by opening the health app, scrolling to workout, tapping that and selecting from the list. Inconvenient for sure, but available. You can also start the workout from the phone and the workout screen will show on the watch. From the phone, you can choose to start the workout on the watch or the phone. But, regardless of which you choose, the workout screen will appear on the watch and you will be able to end it from the watch or the phone.
