Hi there,

I have an older Synchmaster 244T (LS24BRBAB/XAA) that seems to randomly throw a menu-looking blue square in the middle of my screen that sometimes is blank, and sometimes says zero degrees. The best I can tell is that it's the monitor's built in gyroscope tilt sensor thinking it's being rotated? This will happen when I am simply typing, or not even sitting at my desk. It will display for a couple seconds, then go away until the next time it randomly appears. This has only recently started happening, and I've had this beast since 2008 or so and it has never come up prior. Does anyone know what this actually is, or - more importantly - how to get rid of it?

Due to the age of your  monitor a likely scenario  is the electrolytic filter capacitors are drying out allowing electrical noise to interfere with the digital signals on the circuit boards.  This manifests as random events ocurring in the circuits.  Your little square probably being the process most sensitive to the noise.

14 Years of use is very good.  Time for a replacement.
