Hi Everyone

update.

For months I have been chasing Samsung re: firmware updates, eventually I got hold of 2nd level support and a technician that actually knew something instead of giving me standard pre-canned responses.

I was using 1004 firmware and then upgraded to 1005, unfortunately there was not any improvement.

However, Samsung support gave me access to v1301...a big jump in version numbers and now this is on the support websites to download as a USB update. (I am not sure if it is available via auto updates as I had upgraded them all manually as at the time, the auto update process didn't have the new firmware).

I can say that this version 1301 has "improved" but unfortunately not eliminated the screen blanking issue. This is very disappointing, but that being said it is happening a lot less these days once I have upgraded to this firmware.

So if you are running on anything less than 1301 and have this issue, I suggest you upgrade to the new version. You won't regret it. I have contacted support again, to find out if they are still going to continue looking into this problem. [I have also indicated that I have another problem with the Settings - Number - Color button on the remote, and that my remote eventually stops responding to my monitor - oh well will have to wait for that to be fixed.]

Anyway back to the monitor problem. I only seem to have the problem with Display Port. (Don't matter what frequency as it still occurs - FYI I operate the monitor at 120Hz. But tried 60Hz and 240Hz and still same issues. However, if I use HDMI I don't have any issues at all. I am using a NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super; using G-Sync Compatible/Adaptive Sync.

I have this monitor (as well as a G6) connected to my main PC using Display Port and then a work PC connected via HDMI. I am mainly on HDMI during the day and have NEVER had the issue with HDMI on the G8. However, when using Display Port, the problem still exists. (BTW the G6 has never missed a beat - so if you only use one computer connected to the monitor I will suggest you change your cable to HDMI. But if you are like me that use two computers connected up, the one using Display Port will probably still have an issue.

Do other people still have this issue with the screen going randomly black for about 1-2 sec from time to time? What Frequency (Refresh Rate) are you using?

Thanks

Neal

Hi Cosmic Ray...thanks so much for the diligence....i have been on at Samsung for this issue since release in the UK...i have went through 6 monitors, then on no. 7 just decided to just use HDMI.

So i too have a NVIDIA card...a 4090 founders. Changed loads of cables etc. with positive results in eradicating the issue.

Firmware is set to the lates 1301

Not sure if this sis a factor or not, but during one of the last NVIDA driver updates, offical compatibility was applied, but when you went to the nvidia site the g80sd was down as a 34" not a 32", but now after the latest driver update, it is down as a 32.

the latest nivida driver did sate that some compatible montor bug fixes were applied...hopefully our monitor was one of these that got fixed. Going to try it tonight.

keep up the good work sir...eventually a bug fix will come out that this monitor deserves

I am giving this a try now. One thing I can say is that the new drivers "recognise" the monitor better, has more options and it feels more stable. (maybe it is just me....who knows).

I am now running both of my monitors (my OLED G8 and OLED G6) at 240Hz using these drivers and no issues to report so far (however only 30min in testing) - but at least no flicker screen on DP....so far... (probably as soon as I post this my screen will flicker...haha)... fingers crossed though.

I will keep an eye on this over the next couple of days ....

The new NVIDIA drivers I am using are 572.16 Win 11 64bit.... release a few days ago.

In the readme, document it also said that these drivers addressed issues with multiple monitors with refresh rates and also HDR as well. Sounds promising.

Unfortunately, the problem still exits. Initially I thought it had gone, but it hasn't. I still experience a black screen about 10min into powering it on. However, what I have done was that I changed my display settings (to get more out of the monitor) and used 240Hz refresh rate and using HDR. So I am now going to go back to 120Hz and non-HDR (my previous config) to see if it happens. Not expecting that it will. I will also go back to my contact at Samsung to see what else they have to report with Nvidia

šŸ˜ž

I am saddened to report that this new Nvidia driver does not fix the problem. I have reverted back to 120Hx and non-HDR and the black screen is back šŸ˜ž I will now go back to Samsung to see if they have any news... one thing is for sure, this doesn't work.

All we know to date is as follows:

1. Using DisplayPort on the Samsung G80SD-32 using a NVIDIA card results (running the latest firmware from Samsung - 1301) causes the screen to go Black at about 10min after powering up (monitor and PC) - I have not had any further issues with the screen going back after this time.

2. It does not matter if operating at 120Hz or 240Hz, HDR or Non-HDR; the same issue is there.

3. If you are using a AMD Video card (or any other card for that matter) connected to the Display Port there is NO Black Screen.

4. If you use HDMI with your Nvidia Card you do not get the Black screen; however you also do not get G-SYNC.... so take your pick

So, given the monitor does not have the issue with other video cards with DP it appears only to be a problem with Nvidia cards using DP (aka Nvidia issue)

For me, the screen going black roughly 10min after powering up my computer/screen is not a show stopper... for having this monitor....In the meantime I will still chase up Samsung to see if they can get an update from Nvidia... unless anyone know how to raise an issue with Nvidia directly??

I guess in the Nvidia forum perhaps, but I think the message would be more direct were it from the samsung team. I have to wonder why it only the samung monitor though, you would think all the another panel from different monitors would behave similarly.

I have read that G-sync will work over HDMI. But I have not confirmed this as I use a work computer connected up to HDMI and personal computer using DP. If I get some time I will check.

According to your User Guide G-Sync and Freesync are usable in HDMI and DP modes.

I was planning to use hdmi till the display port issue get fix but hdmi causes blackout flickers when gaming in hdr while using the volume scroll wheel of my keyboard. Display port doesn't have that issue. Not sure if it a window issue or Nvidia driver that causing this but it seem hdmi isn't a perfect solution at least not when gaming in hdr.
