Y'all, I feel like I'm going crazy here. Generally, I'm the techno-dweebie who fixes folks' phones....but I can't get this new phone to cooperate, and I'm ready to take a hammer to this thing.

Please halp!

I have browsed SO MANY MESSAGES, WEB SITES, ETC trying to do this on my own. Am I broken?

Generally, you can change notification sounds for a particular app in the settings in the app itself, or going through the phone's settings--I've seen the option located in sounds, notifications, and under apps (I'm pretty sure most phones that I've done this on had multiple directions you could come at it from), in the past.

Here's what my screen looks like when following the directions I've see most often (settings, apps, notifications). I'm also including my hardware/software info.

In order, the pics are of settings:apps:messages (pic 1) and then messages:notifications (pic 2).

You can't click on "allow sound and vibration" for more options.

If you click on "in-app notification settings," it takes you to the app settings (pic 3)..... But clicking on notifications takes you right back to the phone's settings: apps:messages:notifications (pic 2).

Last 2 are phone info, in case anything there is why I can't do this not basic of things.

Thanks in advance to anyone able to help!!!

Apparently I can't be enthusiastic in my response.  But I really, really appreciate you thank you.

@FemMorpheus Messages is kind of a special case. Messages allows you to set notification sounds on individual conversations.

  1. Open a conversation
  2. Click the 3 dot menu in upper right.
  3. Click on Details
  4. Click on Notifications
  5. Click on Sound and choose the sound you want heard for that conversation.

Tap notification categories. You'll find your answer there for each app.
