Your 'Add new apps to Home screen' option in your 'Home screen' settings of your 'Settings' is probably disabled. To change this:
'Settings'→'Home screen'→'Add new apps to Home screen'
Enable if you want future apps to be automatically added to your Home screen(s)
If you'd like to add existing apps there's 2 ways:
'Apps'→tap & drag am app icon up to the top of the 'Apps: screen (don't let it go)→place it either on the currently home screen OR if you have multiple home screens, you can tap & hold & drag it to either the left or right edges (don't let go) until you get to which screen you'd like it on & where on it you'd like it to be, then release
'Apps'→tap & hold an app→in the pop-up window with an app's name (along with its 'App info', 'Select', & 'Add to Home' icons), you can tap 'Add to Home' for it to automatically be added somewhere on your home screen(s). Afterwards, you can tap & hold & drag it to place it on your home screen where you'd like it to be (don't let go). If you have multiple home screens, then you can tap & hold & drag it to either the left or right edges (don't let go) to pick which home screen you'd like it to be on & where you'd like it positioned & release
Only let go if the app icon is where you'd like for it to be.
