Permanent fix for eARC Soundbars:

Goto All Settings \ Sound \ Expert Settings

Switch eARC to Auto

I've been using it like that for days and days - no drops!

=================================================================

Temporary fix for non-eARC Soundbars:

Goto

All Settings

Sound

Expert Settings

DiGital Output Format

Select PCM

Works for me. Couple of hours without a single drop.

Id suggest we each take this with your local Samsung distributor. The more pressure we put on them the better.

==============

Original Story:

I have a per of QN90c 75" TV and a Q990B soundbar.
After the TV was updated I immediately noticed sound drops with my soundbar. The drops would come at random intervals. Resetting the TV does not help. Neither does changing sound modes. Output via TV Speakers seems to be working fine drops-free.
Searching online i found a few more similar cases with different Samsung TV models and Samsung soundbars affected by the same firmware.

Here's one:

issu with sound after last update - Version 1402.5 - S95C : r/S95C (reddit.com)

1. TV Model you have:
Samsung QN800C 75"

2. Home Theater System / Soundbar model:
Samsung HW-S800B

3. External devices Connected:

Nothing else.

4. Current Software version for TV:
TV: 1402.5,

No idea of how to see software version for the soundbar (SmartThings doesn't show this info + my device has no screen).

5. How is the HTS or Soundbar connected:
HDMI ARC (but issue happens on ANY type of connection, e.g. WiFi, Bluetooth)

6. How often does this occur:
Every 10-15 minutes or so, but sometimes back to back within a minute. Doesn't matter if Q-Symphony enabled or not.

7. Is there a specific device you're using when it occurs:
Native Netflix app, native Plex app, playing video from external SSD OR DLNA using built-in TV player. Please, read this correctly: the issue is relevant for ALL mentioned before types of playback. So, the problem is not related to just "some app". Built-in player is affected by the issue as well.

The posted solution is of no use if your soundbar is ARC. Even if it is it's not a sure fire solution and should  not be posted as a pinned fix. Good lord.

This is common enough to identify as a firmware bug. The dropouts on my end began occuring immediately after updating to firmware 1402.5. All solutions attempted, all permutations tried. Including factory reset(s).

55" s90c /samsung s60b with rears/ AppleTV 4K '23 / PS5 - All running latest public firmwares, all connected via HDMI. Drops happen regardless of what platform apps play on. Around 6 drops an hour. More frequent and obvious on PS5.

This is a problem with the dolby codec or how it was installed/updated in the most recent firmware 1402.5. Atmos becomes intolerable. Please pass this along to the engineers not other moderators.

Yep its a bug. I occurs with arc abd optical connections.

Im really baffled that the firmware testers missed this, since ita basically 100% if you use a external audio device be it connected to hdmi arc or optical toslink

There is no permanent fix. Seems like Samsung pulled the update, 1402.5 is not available on eu support download website anymore. Hopefully there is a fix available soon for those who updated, found the error and reported it......

Do you think people are stupid? Anyone with a brain know's it should be set to Auto anyway. Why would you have it set to off?
