Tab S9 FE+ and physical keyboard

Tab S9 FE+, fully up to date. Using a Bluetooth external keyboard (HOU Keyboard Case). When I have Samsung Keyboard set as default, the onscreen keyboard often shows up when tapping a text entry field even if I turn off the option to show the onscreen keyboard while using the physical keyboard. This has apparently been an issue for the past year, based on a thread I saw here in the Members app. I've already tried turning off the "Show Keyboard Button in Navigation Bar" option.

Also, if I change the default keyboard to Gboard, the onscreen keyboard stops popping up -- however, there's a prominent and inexplicable black bar that appears at the bottom of the screen, taking up valuable real estate while typing. I'm sharing a couple of screenshots, one without the bar, and the other with the bar (which showed up after tapping a text entry field -- it's sloppily circled in blue).  Anyone know of a fix?

I appreciate your help, anyway! It's not a huge deal -- so far, this tablet is working quite well as a laptop replacement. Just these couple of nagging details that are preventing it from becoming a 100% perfect experience.šŸ˜Š

Yeah, I mostly use Google apps (like Google Docs) and browser-based activities (along with some Android games), so it works well for me. But if you need something for more involved productivity or creation, a PC or Mac is probably a better bet.

Now that I'm back home from vacation, I did a little more testing. This behavior persists regardless of the Bluetooth keyboard (I tested with my Logitech Pebble Keys 2 in addition to the HOU keyboard case I was using before). I also tested my Pixel Tablet using a Bluetooth keyboard -- that blank bar does NOT appear there. So it seems to be something with Samsung's UI and/or firmware.
