Washers and Dryers

So many times the folks that set up the 'programming' on these things are NOT able to test every environment.  However, I feel this is a massive oversight in this case.  The washing machine in the process of getting hot water ends up turning my demand water heater on and off and on and off and on and off and on... and... well... you get the idea.  First, listening to that thing switch on and off so much tells me that the washing machine is NOT getting hot water in a fashion consistent with turning a demand water heater on... drawing what it actually needs... then shutting off the hot supply.  But... over and over and over again with little more time than it takes to get the water heater to fire up, then shutting off instantly, is NOT how it should work.  But worse then that I think, my old 'brand X' washing machine had a 'soft on and off' ability that turned the water on and off over about a second.  This 'smart things' washer HAMMERS the pipes when it slams the water off.  I can feel and hear the pipes hammering as the machine turns the hot water off.  It hammers the pipes enough that it causes a spike in pressure blowby at one of my garden fixtures gaskets.  Please tell me how much longer my water heater is going to last under these extraordinary conditions.  I'm a little too irritated to try to hunt down the model number of my washer... it's one of the fancy new front loaders with the touch controls, a single dial, and the cute little extra door.  Eight months old maybe?

Hello! Thank you for reaching out! I know this can be frustrating with your washer not operating like you want it too. If the information from @Hake  does not help then I would recommend to get a professional installer out as this does seem like an issue with the installation. We would be unable to help with installation issues. If they are unable to help service would be recommended. Depending on your warranty you have a few options.

- If your unit was recently purchased, you can check with your retailer on their return/exchange processes.
- If you have an extended warranty you can reach out to them to have service set up.
- If you're within the one year warranty, you can Private message me or one of our moderators or you can call in directly at 1-800- 726-7864 with your full model and serial number to have service setup
- If you're OUT of warranty, you can use this link below to find a service center in your area.

For the hammer issue, it's pretty common on most washers since they all use the same solenoid valve that instantly shuts or opens.

There are things called hammer arrestors that attach right in between the wall connection and the washer hoses that have an air bubble in the top that compresses like suspension on a car when the valves close which from what I've read can sometimes eliminate water hammer.

You should try them at least they're typically $20-$30 and could completely fix the hammering

The water heater I'm assuming is gas?

I'm not familiar with tankless heaters but if it's supposed to kick on and off whenever you use the hot water it's probably designed for that (Eg. washing your hands throughout the day).

I could be wrong and the heater could be poorly programmed like you stated.
