App icon numbers gone after update

My app icon numbers disappeared with latest update. One UI version 6.1 Android 14 phone a 53. Any ideas how to restore?

Try this Long press on your home screen
Settings
App icon badge and set to number or dot

Thanks for the suggestion but I did try that before and it didn't work. I just removed a note app and now the app icon numbers magically appeared. Go figure! At least they are visible now
