Well, I don't currently have an external SSD drive, however, I do have some old external drives. Since I just happened to receive a USB A to C adapter today, I hooked it up to my A54 (yes, I know it's not the same phone, but it should react similarly). It connected as read only because that drive uses Windows NTFS format since it was formatted for a windows PC.  But, it was perfectly readable in file manager.  I assume you want to be able to transfer files to and from said external drive, so you would have to format the drive accordingly. I believe exFAT or FAT32.  I don't know if it can be formatted by the phone when you first plug it in, but maybe?

@Toufiq  The A55 supports OTG so it should work for you.
