I had 2 fingerprints registered on my A51 5G and one of my fingers has a cut and bandaid. So go to use 2nd finger, and doesn't work. Then TRY EVERY finger, with no success.
So tried to enter new finger, and the sensor will give haptic feedback, then not retain or register ANY fingerpresses at all. It temporarily makes some lines on the print, then they disappear.

Hello, welcome to the Community, and thanks for reaching out about this. I can see how inconvenient this is for you not registering your fingerprints. Your phone's fingerprint sensor provides a convenient and secure way to unlock your phone, and keeps your personal information safe. If you are having trouble using your fingerprint sensor there are a few things to consider: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01200322/#:~:text=Scratches%20or%20dirt%20may%....

If the troubleshooting is not helpful, the phone will need to be evaluated by a certified technician. For service in the U.S., you can take the phone to a local U.S. walk-in service location https://www.ubreakifix.com/samsung or to ship the phone in for service, please reach out to us via one of the following options: 1.
