Notification sounds for messages

The A25 is probably the 4th and likely the last Samsung phone that I have had.  I never had to set notification sounds for Samsung messages before unless I wanted to change from the default.  This phone had nothing set for notification sounds.  I have to set each of my contacts separately.  Isn't there some way to set all contacts to a default sound?

Yes, there is a way to set to set default sound for all contacts.

Account>Message settings >Notifications>Allow Notifications --switched on, then same page Alerts> Allow sound and vibrations.

There is also notification types on the same page as Alerts. Mine is locked screen allowed, badge allowed, and Pop up allowed.

Sound will be the default sound for alerts or sound you selected for alerts.

One more detail in settings click notifications then app notifications scroll down to messages and switch on.

I checked that setting and default sound is set as I want, but yet when I go to a person who I have not texted in a long time it says: set a custom notification sound.  Why wouldn't the default sound that I have set already be selected.  It was on all of my other Samsung smart phones.  I am ready to say goodby to Samsung phones.

Short cuts : Clear cache and data in storage in the messages app. This clears message settings and back to default settings. Give it a try.

Gave it a try and of course I lost all sounds that I had set and when I go to Notification sound nothing is selected, not even Default notification sound.  Why wouldn't default be set for all contacts?  I tried Google messages but cannot stand all of the ads.

Samsung messages is just as easy to configure as Google messages. Settings>Apps> Messages with the 3 dots>Notifications>Allow>configure in messages>Notifications all switched on- default sound is present.

 When I check an individual on my contact list their is no sound unless I pick the default or a custom one.  Other models of Samsung phones that I have had, everyone automatically had the default sound.
