Samsung 990 PRO 4TB NVMe SSD - encryption user key not working

I am trying to configure FDE using two Samsung 990 PRO 4TB SSDs in a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen7. The system runs Debian Trixie without problems. Enabling User and Admin passwords for both NVMe SSDs appears to be working fine, but after the next power cycle, the user password is no longer valid. The admin password still works, and I can use the admin password to disable the NVMe passwords, but I can not utilize the user password. I am hesitant to define a "user password only" for the disks, because if that gets invalidated I have no admin password to disable NVMe passwords.
I did verify that both, the laptop and the SSDs have the latest firmware installed. I also re-installed the original Samsung 256GB SSD and the NVMe passwords work without problems when this disk is installed. Looks like it is a problem with the newer and larger SSDs.
I opened a Lenovo Support ticket to see if they have a solution for this problem. I am posting this problem also in this forum to see if anybody else had a similar experience and some advice.

Werner

The response from Lenovo Support is rather disappointing:

  • I have discussed the case with my lead and was informed that the matter is out of support scope of the Lenovo Premier Support. We will not be able to assist with upgrades, especially if the parts are not certified by Lenovo to be compatible.

The Samsung 990 PRO 4TB SSD is not compatible with Lenovo products????  Looks like I am out of options using the encryption of the SSDs unless somebody in this forum has an idea.
