I've searched for this setting that I know existed but can't find it. I tried it on Samsung messages and Google messages and the option is not there. I have a ton of old messages and it's started to slow down my phone.

Hello, Welcome to the Community. We understand the importance of being able to delete old messages to free up storage on the phone.

The steps provided by VerbumVeritum are correct as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqdhoZzx8YE

As the Messages are managed by the Service Providers and the settings are not available on your device, we recommend reaching out to your service provider to see what options they may offer.

Uh.
Depending on your Samsung make and Model, it might just need a tweak or two? Make sure your data is not overloaded, and then try to use Diagnostic Testing.
Good luck 👍🏽

I don't believe Google Messages has this feature, but in Samsung Messages it is: Top right three dots>Settings>More settings>Delete old messages

I'm not really getting any good answers from anyone. I'll just deal with it until I need a new phone.

Your carrier controls the availability of that option.  This is the same More Settings screen in Samsung Messages as provided by Verizon on a Verizon Locked phone.  Have you changed carriers lately?

I have the unlocked version of the Fold 5 and currently on the At&t network. I had the option on my Fold 4 but disappeared after upgrading. At&t customer service is absolutely no help. I don't think they understand what I'm talking about. I just started manually deleting old messages.
