Fold & Flip PhonesHi! Go to settings in Samsung Messages and click "Chat settings." Make sure "Share typing indications" is turned on.
You can change the option of read confirmation on each separate conversation. Simply open a conversation in the app, click the three dots in the top right corner, and click "Send read confirmation."

@Robin621k is correct, these settings are dependant upon the service providers. Additionally, the other party you are texting also has to have the settings active for the feature to work.
You may need to check that they also have the settings active. If they are still not working, we recommend following up with AT&T.
