Why is there a number 6 above my arrows where my Wi-Fi is it's never been there before and I've had this Galaxy a year why is it just now showing up

It indicates that you are connected to the latest, fastest Wifi standard Wifi 6.

As to why it is showing up now, the icon was either added in a recent phone update OR the Wifi you are connected to has been upgraded to Wifi 6.
