Sending videos on Samsung message

Hi all. I used to be able to send any size or length video using Samsung message. Now it wants me to use "link sharing" to send a video. Did Samsung change their services? I've tried Google message, it works but limits the size I can send.

Is there any way to use either service and send over minute videos without using a 3rd party service like "link sharing"?

Text messages are limited to the size of a file that can be sent so you would have to send the video as a link for them to view it they are no options to increase the size that can be sent.

Plus Samsung is slowly phasing out Samsung Messages in favor of Google Messages

If the video is long and I want to preserve quality, I upload the video to Google Drive and share a link. I used link sharing once or twice too.

1. Use Google Messages or Samsung Messages for Larger Files (with limitations):

While Google Messages supports sending videos, the file size limit still exists for direct MMS sending (around 10MB). Videos larger than this will be automatically sent via Google’s own cloud service (Google Drive), allowing you to send longer videos, but with the limitation that the recipient needs access to the link.

Samsung Messages previously allowed larger file transfers but now redirects larger videos to Link Sharing, which hosts the file on Samsung’s cloud storage. It still provides a link that you can share, but the file itself isn't directly sent through the SMS/MMS network.


2. Compress Videos Before Sending:

If you want to avoid cloud sharing services and send the video directly through Samsung Messages or Google Messages, you can try compressing the video before sending. Apps like Video Compressor or VidTrim can help you reduce the file size while maintaining reasonable quality.

If you reduce the file to below the MMS limit (usually around 10MB), it will be sent directly. For larger files, you’ll still need to resort to using a link service or compression tools.


3. Alternative Messaging Apps:

If you're okay with using third-party apps, consider messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal. These apps allow sending larger files (usually up to 100MB), and they compress videos automatically to a reasonable size while sending them.


4. Check for Updates:

Samsung or Google may release updates to their respective apps to improve video sharing functionality. Make sure both your Samsung Messages and Google Messages are fully updated from the Play Store to get any recent improvements.


5. Cloud Storage Workaround:

While not ideal for everyone, you could upload the video to a cloud service like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive and share the link via SMS or messaging apps. This would ensure the recipient can access the file in its full size without the limits imposed by MMS.


Unfortunately, unless Samsung or Google revises their limitations on video size through MMS, you'll likely need to use either link sharing or third-party services for larger videos.

Or turn on RCS and tell them to upgrade to ios 18 then send the video via RCS
