Is the Galaxy Store app just Samsung's version of the Play Store?

Should I keep Store activated or should I keep play store? Which one is worth keeping?

You kinda gotta use both. As MrGhoul said it's primarily for updating Samsung exclusive apps.
However there are some good offers on it, and all software should be optimized for your device which is very neat. I am pretty sure LumaFusion (normally being either $20-30USD) is straight up free due to a partnership between LumaTouch and Samsung. So it's good for that I guess.

You'll want to keep the Galaxy Store activated to keep your software up to date. I believe it can update automatically.

However you can hide it from your home screen if it's wasting space.

Go to your home screen and hold to see "Wallpapers and Style, Themes, Widgets and Settings"
Press settings
Scroll down to find "Hide apps on Home and Apps screens"
Then toggle Galaxy Store.

What this will do is remove seeing the app from both your home screen and app screen, while allowing it to still operate (install updates). You can always search for it and it'll show up. It'll just be out of the way then šŸ˜‰

Removing notifications from the Galaxy Store
Because I'll be honest. The notifications are really annoying.

Go into your main settings
Notifications
App Notifications
Press the 3 dots on the top right -> show system apps
Find the Galaxy Store
Set the alerts to silent,
Then click notification categories
Turn off everything you don't want to see like event notifs, or general notifications.

This will make it so it shouldn't be intrusive anymore and you can properly forget about it even being there.

Oh and totally keep the play store.

Cheers

You can keep both and use both. Samsung Galaxy store updates the samsung native apps on your device, so yes, you should keep it activated.

Wow, Thanks! This actually answered a small concern of mine. Just want some apps to be hidden but might've needed to maximize some use Minimalism FTW.

@King_of_The_Cats The Galaxy Store is not a duplicate of the Play Store. There are many Samsung apps which are specific to Samsung devices and only available in the Galaxy Store. Also there are many apps which offer specific features/deals to Samsung devices. These are only available in the version downloaded from the Galaxy Store.
