Google photo and gallery

I prefer not to use Google photos and just gallery. But it seems that my photos in gallery are in Google photo app and if I delete a photo from Google photo app it deletes it from my gallery. 

Also albums I set up in my gallery app appear in Google photo app.

I thought they were separate apps.

Try this: Open Google photos. Click your initial in upper right. Click Photos settings. Click backup and turn it off.

They're both displaying images from the same folders, they aren't separately storing photos. This means that it if you delete it from one app, it is being deleted on a system level rather than just from one app.

I guess what confused me is I downloaded a photo from my email and it did not appear in Gallery but did show up in Google photos

The gallery one is most likely returning to the date it was taken. So you'd have to scroll to find it. Its self organizing while when u download on Google photos it's viewd as a recent entry and not sorted properly . It's really annoying it happens to me too
