Please help... how do I get rid of Google Messages? A pop up came on saying I needed to update my messages and when I did, Google message became the default and my Samsung Messages app is gone! I can't access it automatically & the app & icon disappeared off my phone. I have to go into my phone settings, then apps, then look for the samsung messages. It's listed as my default yet it will not show up on my phone. I un-installed Google Messages but I still can't restore my default Samsung Messages.
Can anyone please help me? Thanks so much!

I switch back and forth between both message apps regularly, and I have never lost a single message, so I cannot say why any of your messages would disappear. I only use Google messages and always have, but sometimes I switch to Samsung in order to help someone. All my messages are always intact.

I downloaded last week the Google Messages app and switched to it to try it out. But immediately I saw that MANY of my messages did not copy over! I don't recall seeing where there was a Spam folder..?

My overall impression of Google Messages was that it was NOT any better than Samsung Messages, and in fact I found that it had less features to use, so I switched back to Samsung Messages and I uninstalled Google Messages!

As long as Samsung Messages still is available on my phone, and in the Galaxy Store, and still is usable, then it's what I will stick to.

If anyone however wants to make a full video review on YT showing ALL the features that Google Messages supposedly has, I would welcome seeing that. But for now I don't believe it is any better than Samsung Messages and so I don't see any reason to switch to Google Messages!

The spam folder is there, you have to tap your initial on the top of the app, when the shade comes down, tap spam and blocked and it will bring you to the spam folder. There is absolutely no reason switching apps would cause you to lose messages, as messages are contained on your carrier's servers for whatever arbitrary period of time before they purge them. If your missing messages are older than that limit, that could be a reason the are gone. In any case, they are downloaded to your phone once you open them and backed up to Google, and so still should be there. Messaging apps are just a shell...a viewer to download and read messages. Which one you use or switch back and back and forth between should not affect retention. You are, of course, entitled to a preference, and can use any messaging app you choose.

Here's a little tip for everyone. If you feel at sll iffy about switching apps, switching phones or whatever, back up what's inportant to you.

First, thank you for what you do. I'm a cancer patient & my therapist is an immense support for me.
Second, is your Samsung Messages app still showing in your phones App settings? If so, try doing what angelg4 suggested. Refer to the post I pictured. That's what restored my messages on my homescreen. 1727704806010.jpg

Agree, not good at all. When you install Google messages, it comes with a bunch of ads. Garbage!

So does this mean there's no way of getting it back on my phone? I can see Samsung Messages when I go in my settings, but can't get the app back on my homescreeen.
