S21 Symbols gone from keyboard

Hello, unsure if this was due to a recent upgrade, but the symbols disappeared from my keyboard except for the comma & the period on each side of the space bar. I've been trying to get them back where I long press on a letter key to enable them. Now I have to press the symbols key to see them. 

Resetting my keyboard did nothing. 

Can anyone help?

Open your keyboard
Tap the gear icon
Scroll down to layout
Toggle on Alternative characters

YOU'RE THE BEST!!! Just fixed it! Thank you SO much, this has been driving me NUTS! 😄 I kept checking in layout, custom symbols.

Worked for me too.  I miss my LG phones - they were so much better at retaining preferences after updates, not to mention less than 1/4 of the bloatware that Samsung insists on installing.  If they hadn't decided to not join the 5G fray, I would still be with them.

It did not bring back the attachment icon (paperclip), but the microphone came back. Any thoughts on how to get the attachment option back?
