Didn't receive double storage upgrade

I just received my two Samsung galaxy s22 ultras from Google Fi today that were pre-ordered with the free storage upgrade.  The 128 gb phone just only 128gb and the 512gb model is only 512gb. Why did I not get the double storage upgrade promised. I was redirecting a 256gb and 1tb phone.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

If you had ordered the 256 gb model, you would have paid the same price as the 128 gb model. They weren't going to just send you a phone with double the storage.

If you order the lowest model available, 128GB and get a free storage upgrade, you would expect to receive a 256GB phone.  Receiving a 128GB phone would mean you ordered a 64GB with free storage upgrade and a 64GB edition does not exist so the expectation for a free storage upgrade to 256GB is the only realistic possibility

The reverse is true as well.  you can only order a 512GB model as the largest model sold on their site.  Hence because the free storage upgrade would increase your phone to 1 TB, the largest model available.

Am I wrong?

Unfortunately the way it works is that it was always a cash promotion that effected the PIC (Price In Cart), it was never an actual physical doubling of the memory from what you ordered. So you could get the 512GB for the price of the 256GB and the 256GB for the price of the 128GB. Those were the only 2 models the offer applied to (see photo and note that 256GB and 128GB both have the same starting price). The 1TB and 128GB were excluded from the deal.

Since the PIC for the 256GB and 128GB would be the same during the promotion, there would be no reason to order the 128GB unless buying after the promotion ended. After the promotion the 256GB and 512GB models will increase by $100 each.

Hopefully you can get it straightened out through a return/repurchase.

Thanks for the good explanation.  Seems a little shady by reducing the price to make it look like you're getting a better deal when in the future it will probably be the same price. 

It shouldn't surprise me considering the shady practices of trade-ins.

I am not sure if "shady" is really the right word. But it is definitely one of those deals where if you get caught up in the ordering process it is easy to miss. I mean it's a good deal, $100 off. But I guess only time will tell how well that "good deal" ages 🙂.

If they drop the price of the 128GB and 1TB models by $100 rather than raising the 256GB and 512GB models by $100, maybe not so well.

Haha they were allowing you to pick the next up storage model for the one befores price 🤣 pay for 128gb= get 256gb. Sorry, hope you get it fixed.
