Android Auto reads both new incoming message and previous sent message

I recently got a car with android auto and I'm having an issue where, upon reading a new incoming message, it also reads the last message I sent. It's like it's reading from a conversation being had in the text notifications where you can see your previous message in the notification bar. 

As in the image, I'll ask it to read message 2, and it will read message 2 and then read message 1, which I sent. It's really frustrating as it becomes confusing who said what, and doubles the time to read messages.

To be clear, this is using the default samsung messaging app.

I had this issue but somehow it cleared itself out. I assumed that it was an update to Android Auto.
