Galaxy S24 show connected to Bluetooth device, but audio won't play?

Connected S24 to Bluetooth device, shows connected for audio but sound only plays on phone still. Tried a friends Samsung and it worked as expected. Troubleshooting with Samsung support for over an hour, they gave up and said I need a new device. 

Tried my Samsung tablet and same issue. All other phones that don't belong to me have no issue. Worked fine on same Bluetooth device last night. Any ideas?

It would be very rare for the same owner to have two unrelated devices that have the same defect. I would sooner think that the problem lies with either some setting on your devices preventing the switch, or the settings in the music app. Does it only happen with music, or can you not take calls and view video on social media?

Nothing works. The devices are set to share so if something changes in 1 it changes the other. I've had 4 other devices, Samsung and iPhone, that connected and played without issue. I agree, I would have thought it was something that changed but it played the same BT device last night, issue popped up this morning. I didn't change anything between then

I would suggest uncoupling the devices for troubleshooting.

So, you are saying everything was fine yesterday, but not today? What steps did you go through with Samsung support? Did Samsung tech support suggest you reset your network connections? No one likes to do this because it erases all your Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices, but sometimes it needs to be done.

Reset wifi/Bluetooth settings, mobile network settings (I don't have an overall network settings option) restarted phone several times, wiped cache partition in the recovery menu. Found a reddit with developer menu changes that worked for others with the same issue.
