Galaxy S24@ConnieS70 The way that the touch screen works is through capacitance. Essentially the screen detects a change in capacitance in that area of the screen and signals a touch has occurred. This does not require you to physically touch the screen. Therefore what you are seeing is really normal behaviour.
You could try going to phone settings -> Display and make sure that (increased) Touch sensitivity is OFF.
