Not receiving number badge on my Messaging app

Currently on my newly acquired galaxy s24 ultra when I receive an incoming text msg I won't get a number notification on the app badge like other apps.Instead I receive a pop up on my home screen.I think I've attempted everything to correct this can anyone help?

Have you made sure that Badge is allowed under device Settings > Notifications > App Notifications > Messages

Yes I'm getting the badge notification on other apps but not msgs

Go to the app notification settings and make sure your badges are allowed. If they still don't show:

Make sure you have notification categories turned on  Settings/notifications/advanced settings/manage notification categories for each app and then return to the settings and make sure the badges are turned on.
