Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

I have Goodlock and the clockface won't change on the AOD. Even after setting it, it just stays the same. Something is messed up between One UI 6.1 and the Goodlock apps.

I really hope Samsung brings back the additional settings for the always on display. Specifically, the ability to change the clock style. I really enjoyed the one that showed all my events for the day at a glance. Seems like a strange thing to omit from the settings and should be an easy software update fix.

Thanks, but that's the lock screen and not AOD. The clock option there with events also makes the clock part too small to use as a bedside clock like I do too.

That and I also noticed I can't change the brightness to the AOD. It's stuck on auto setting. Sometimes I can barely see it

Agreed! I just reported this as an error in the members app.

So many features of this new operating system seem to be missing or incomplete. This new version of OneUI feels rushed to me, like Samsung didn't have time to finish updating and fully testing all the features to make sure everything worked right before pushing it onto users' phones.

I wonder if it's going to be like Good Lock, where they're slowly adding back missing features as they finally finish updating them.

It's a shame because if all this stuff had been given enough time to be worked on properly, both OneUI and the S24 phones could have been truly awesome. Now people will have to wait as features are added back that shouldn't have needed to be removed.

Agreed. We can only hope that enough of us complain and they actually listen to our feedback.

I can't put my own custom picture anymore on AOD either. Are all these features coming back with the day 1 patch on the 31st or what are they thinking???? My s24 ultra with the dull screen and color and missing AOD features is lack luster and I will be returning it if it's not fixed with a software patch this week unfortunately.
