Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

I hope their developers areNOT taking this weekend off and try to fix all that mess. Especially vivid screen issue, I mean do you even test that functionality before release, that's a pretty obvious one, especially when you put a new display panel on your device. Fix before 31st or you will be dealing with bunch of returns.

Also why to mess with AOD, are you really that desperate to change something that's not broken? Stop taking away features that people use heavily and got used to. Bring manual AOD brightness back. Samsung gets away with a lot of cr*p because people are still buying their phones.

STOP doing rushed releases. Quality over quantity. I will be getting S24U device tomorrow, and if you don't fix a display bug by 31st , I will return my unit. For $1300 I have a right to expect a decent quality. Vote with your wallets, folks. That's the only way to make them hear us.

I have the s24 Ulta - for a vivid "fix" just make sure that the "eye comfort shield" setting is off. I also went into "Screen Mode" and bumped the 'white balance' one step towards warm.

All of these options are under the Display menu in settings.

That doesn't do anything. It's a bug with the Vivid option. The display is dull and hazy even if u mess with the settings

You totally right this does not fix anything. I do hope it's a bug and not screen coating issue and we will get it fixed by next week. Otherwise I'm not trading in my gorgeous S22ULTRA . And returning the S24ULTRA dull looking washed out colors display with this poor cameras that make me look pale in all the photos

You're telling me you made these changes on your s24 ultra and didn't notice a difference?

You didn't answer the question I asked. And Eye Comfort was only half of the solution. And, for the record, Eye Comfort Shield 100% changes how colors render. I'm guessing you're ignoring what I proposed TRYING because you don't have an S24 Ultra. You're just going off of what you've seen on YouTube videos.

You're ignoring 50% of what I put in as something to try. I was only trying to help people while they waited for Samsung. Since you're refusing to talk about the other part of the solution I'm assuming you want to be miserable. So enjoy looking at your washed-out screen until a patch comes through. šŸ˜‰

this is not a fix, have you tried shifting between "Vivid" and "Natural" after this and on your old phone if you have one.....the bug still exists.

Yea it's definitely a bug. Because s24 and s24+ users have said the same thing, they're phones are dull. So it doesn't have anything to do with the anti reflective screen on the ultra. I hope Samsung fixes this as well. I like the phone but this is a big issue.

This is not a solution. Watch this video: https://youtu.be/rSkhC4AGhxg?feature=shared

It is a firmware issue that can be fixed with software update. If Samsung will do it or not, that's another story!
