Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

why change a feature that people have used and love for years, I don't see a point of messing with vivid display option when natural is more accurate to color. We buy a android for customization and if Samsung intentionally made vivid display more dull than I'm disappointed in them.

I was adjusting "Minimum Width" the other day and saw this new setting "Contrast".

I see no difference in contrast, switching to any of the three options.
Not available on my S23U so I can't make a comparison.

Maybe you guys can see better than me. šŸ„ø

I did & didn't notice any difference. I set mine back to default. Just incase an update comes out & doesn't mess up anything on my Ultra further. lol
AOD is just dead, there's no need for it because there's no Brightness settings for it & I can't see it anyway at night when I want to just look up & see what time it is. Apparently there's a fix coming for that also. We'll see..

We need to start something so our voices are heard that we want the setting to be changed to how it used to be. We all thought it was a bug but this is intentionally done. We have to all let them know as consumers that this is not what we wanted. If I would have known that I wouldn't have purchased this phone. I hate to sound like one of the Karen's or Kyle's, but come on. If I wanted a natural look I would select it in the display. I noticed when I did screen mirroring that the color was more pop vrs the phone and that's not right. We paid a very decent amount of money for these phones. We need to voice our concerns. Blow this post up, share it etc. If we speak up loud enough they will have to answer.

Leave a ā¤ļø and a comment saying fix it!

To late I already sent mine back. This and them removing the three swipe buttons and no clear answer on if we have to pay for AI was enough for me.

They have the swipe function in good lock. And the ai is still up in the air, but I completely understand.

I'm sending my s24 ultra back too! Hanging onto my 22 for now. At least the photo colors are accurate and not washed out and too "cool toned" even with adjusting settings šŸ«

It's sad I really do love this phone. 1st upgrad since the s9+ and I keep seeing mixed reports on if they are going to fix the display.
