Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

Galaxy S24Online reviews can indeed be a mixed bag, and it’s essential to consider various perspectives when evaluating a device like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Let’s break down some aspects related to the screen, AI features, and other concerns you’ve raised:
Screen Brightness and Vivid Mode:
- The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a brighter screen than the S23 Ultra.
- However, some users find the Vivid mode on the S24 Ultra to be washed out and dull.
- Online reviews might not highlight this discrepancy.
AI Features and Exclusivity:
- The S24 Ultra introduces exciting AI features.
- There’s concern that these features might be a one-year free trial and could become paid services later.
- Similar AI features are already coming to older Samsung phones.
Other Issues:
- Some users report faulty cameras, poor battery charging, and a green line on the screen.
- Unfortunately, reviews don’t always cover these issues.
Samsung’s Official Stand:
- Samsung hasn’t publicly addressed the dull screen issue.
- As loyal customers, we hope Samsung continues to improve and address concerns. :mobile_phone::sparkles:

Galaxy S24If the pushed out an update and it broke it that would be on Samsung. It's purposely done and they have been making excuses. The fact that vivid mode doesn't work or barely makes a difference.
Don't tell people they are impatient when there is a return window. So you even understand that? People who pre-ordered have only so much time before they have to return their previous device. So yeah maybe you should think about that. I meant everything. A handful haha clearly you have not been on the forums and seen all the articles and media coverage about it. Sit down.

Galaxy S24Why not return it then? Why wait? That actually speaks more volumes than waiting for an update. As I said before if the update breaks the device would you be willing to wait for a fix for that, or would you complain some more and wait past the window for that to get fixed? All I see if people thinking emotionally and not rationally...

Galaxy S24People who pre-ordered especially got the $150 Best Buy gift card and other incentives... that's the whole point in the upgrade. People want to keep them. If you return the S24 or any model of it before you lose those incentives.
You're speaking about hypotheticals IF IF IF IF. Let's speak reality. If you pay $1400 for a phone and there is an expectation set by Samsung themselves then they should meet those expectations. Just because not everyone is complaining doesn't make it a non issue. It clearly is and it's yet again another blunder. This is very Apple-ish. "YOU" don't get to set that threshold of what is a big issue or not... That's not in your purview of pay grade
It's an issue when Samsung gave people the option of Vivid mode for years and even highlighted it for years YET they provide the same option but it barely works. If there wasn't a Vivid mode and Samsung didn't pump many many hours and marketing into how bright and punchy their displays are then people wouldn't have a leg to stand on to be upset. It's a night and day difference between the S23 previous models display and the S24. The difference is very obvious.
