I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š
I've been complaining about the same issue since the 27th, which is when I received my phone. I haven't used the S24U at all, I have just sitting there waiting for the "software" update that Samsung may release to address this, but if they don't, I have to return this phone before the return window closes, and I'm keeping my S23ULTRA. All instances of communication I've had with Samsung's support, whether is regular costumer service or the "technical support" have acted like if they've never heard of the issue before me, and pretend I'm just exaggerating, that's why I'm taking the software release with a grain of salt. Can't trust a company that won't even acknowledge there's a problem that they will fix eventually. So back it goes this phone, after all, if we had that level of "conformity" and allow companies to just to shove down our throats any **bleep** they produce, while charging even more for it, we might very well switch to Apple and become apple fanboys.
I took pictures of beautiful, deep blue skylines in Utah and vivid colored landscapes. They were perfectly captured on my S9. The new S24 makes the skies grey and the red rocks a dull brown. Please fix this Samsung.
Just received my S24 and the colors suck. SAMSUNG why would you take the option for vivid colors away SMFH! Going to return my phone and get the pixel instead
I switch from iPhone to Samsung S24 ultra. Thinking that it'll be a lot better. This is very disappointing washed out color none realistic. My old iphone eleven promise had a better picture than this. Samsung need to fix this or i'm going back to iphone
I agree with the complaints listed (everywhere), the disappointing discoveries about S24U. Hoping it's not too late to Return phone and upgrade from S22U to S23U or 23Plus. Hoping that Samsung will work out the multitude of issues reported about the 24Series before the S25 Release. Performing exhaustive research prior to Pre-Order, I'm only miffed at myself, and no one else, for not being more diligent. To my chronic Flamers: I'm not upset with Samsung, Reddit, Quora, Tom's, Android Authority, YouTube techs or other reviewers. No one forced me to pay $730 for the phone.
What's going on samsung??? So many AOD (always on display) features removed with this new ONE UI?! We can no longer display our own gallery pictures for always on display and can't choose our own brightness for AOD either! What are these downgrades seriously?! And everyone here with the S24 Ultra already knows about the dull/dim screen & washed colors seriously this all better get fixed this is ridiculous for a high price premium flag ship phone. These are all simple fixes that need to be fixed with a day 1 patch on the 31st or unfortunately myself & so many other will be returning our devices.
