Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24Here is a conversation I had with Samsung Support Representative and they do so they are working on this issue and there should be a fix in the next coming weeks.
I tried to post screenshots but it would not allow me. Here is the chat dialogue below

Galaxy S24Would a custom os be able to fix this? I LOVE the s24ultra as a device but would just like the vivid option to be VIVID like it's always been. I don't mind installing a custom build or something else to have the features of the s24 ultra but just real vivid settings.

Galaxy S24So.. I live in Europe, Romania..
The OFFICIAL response from Samsung, via a Community Manager is the same script that has been shown here, that these changes were made, indeed, on purpose.. not a software bug, no deffect etc..
I responded to him and said that we didn't want this and we consider it a downgrade.. and a lot of people will be returning their phones. Also told him that they should have optimized the Natural setting and left the Vivid mode as it was. Give people the choice, don't take the choice away from paying customers!
I also told him that it would have been nice if Samsung would have said that it will be doing this, BEFORE we bought our phones.. not after!
So.. yeah.. i don't think a fix will be coming any time soon.. maybe down the line, if they see that people are returning a lot of phone because of this.. or they don't buy them, also because of this!

Galaxy S24I am thinking of trying other phones with the Galaxy S24 Ultra and not returning to them unless they improve the color accuracy of their Display
People should know that the natural mode of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is not natural and dull due to raising the gamma from 2.2 to 1.8.
It is not an excuse from Samsung that the colors should be comfortable for the eyes. The solution is easy, but Samsung is not amused
It is a reason why people will abandon Samsung if you do not take care of the quality standards enough
The solution is simple, all they have to do is fix the Gamma in their phone

Galaxy S24Lanscape mode, setting-homescreen-rorate to lanacape. Yeah, me too I bought two s24Ultra 1TB for me and wife upgrade frm note10plus and yes same complain as yours. I prioritiae camera a lot and this s24 camera produce picture full of noise, blurry and noisy backround, loss of background details in flash and backlit situation, yellowish night mode. The screen is dull and meh making my note10plus seems like a 2024 model and s24 like a 2019 model. Compared to my older note 8 plus and note 8 screen and camera wins hands down. No matter the marketing things we user can actually feel it. Bad camera software this new generation samsung engineers can go to sleep and let the previous batch fix their glitch.

Galaxy S24Really wanted mine to be true vivid. I came from my s22u and there is definitely a difference. Samsung fix this ASAP. We don't want a Note 7 mass return happening again.

Galaxy S24Definitely worried about screen burn-in with the new AOD. I can't believe they removed burn-in protection! I confirmed by putting a post-it note over the screen to show me where the clock was and after a few minutes, it did not move. @userKHUJBda323fv please fix this!
